We are working on the curation, design and strategy for the first edition of Crafty 2010 - a conference dedicated to artistry, process and diy-ism, kicking off with the event website.
Inspired by the aesthetics of an exposed ceiling - commonly achieved in spacial design to create a raw, wysiwyg sensibility, revealing the pipes, steel beams and lighting fixtures; we conceived a website for Crafty with an exposed grid system combined with a fluid navigation that strips away the experience of traditional web pages.
The site features a custom styled typeface we code-named "Krotesk Regular", to provide a DIY aesthetic for the headers.

The cards are made by duplexing 0.6mm carbonized bamboo veneer (most commonly used for floor and wall tiling) and 200gsm St Cotton paper.
At a thickness of 1.1mm, the bamboo cards are tear, scratch, scuff, stain, fade and burn resistant (and possibly break resistant).
Note:
We would greatly appreciate it if you don't email us about manufacturing the cards for you.
If you want to steal (or borrow) the idea, it's too much hassle for us to stop you. Just don't ask us who, how and where you can have them made.

- a design film festival
- website
- information
Produced by Anonymous, as the first film festival in Asia dedicated entirely to design.
The festival website is designed in a single-page horizontal scrolling format - using just simple html and javacript. The result is a website that is lightweight, allowing it to load quickly without any unnecessary images, script or flash.
The festival website is designed in a single-page horizontal scrolling format - using just simple html and javacript. The result is a website that is lightweight, allowing it to load quickly without any unnecessary images, script or flash.
Our approach to the brief was to strip everything down to it's simplest form - with as little design as possible. Instead focusing on the task at hand, to promote the films.
The typography is set in large, glorious Helvetica - with all extra content neatly hidden away, until revealed by simply clicking the "read more.." links.

- help save paper
- information
Paper merchant, Antalis approached us to curate and design a series of calendars for two thousand ten.
The question we had was - would beautifully crafted illustrations printed on high quality paper change the fact that, thanks to digital proliferation, paper’s numerous variants and breeds were dying out, leaving only the dull A4 copier paper, most commonly found in offices.
Instead of just designing a calendar, we initiated a movement. A movement to help save paper.

Concept
In such dire straits, we called on twelve individuals from all artistic disciplines to create an object using only paper - to create things of beauty, things of usefulness or anything else they can imagine, as long as it elevates the status of paper – from a surface for printing, to a versatile medium of brilliant creativity.
The 12 objects were featured on the Antalis 2010 calendar, to serve as inspiration to and a reminder of the infinite possibilities that paper presents.

- noise singapore 2009
- information
Noise Singapore is a platform for creatives under the age of 35. The brief was to design a publication that would showcase the best works submitted for the competition from categories of Art, Design, Film, Photography and Music.
The year's message being "What noise do you wanna make?" - we designed the publication as an interactive (do-it-yourself) book that challenges the reader to think about what noise they want to make with their abilities.

The book invites the reader to design their own cover, their own typeface, pixel art and iconic activities such as join-the-dots and word-search - and also a resolutions activity that invites the reader to think about what they want to create, and to write down steps to make this ideas or goals happen.

- information
Bracket is conceived as a publication that features content that is everything in between - ideas, processes and voices that are overlooked and under-appreciated.
The business card looks deceivingly empty however when pushed open by pressing on the top and bottom of the card, it reveals the content. The edge of the card then forms a bracket that frames the contact information between it.

Human relationships are difficult, one has to put effort and time into building them.
The business card for Bracket requires effort and time, before the information is revealed, similar to the human relationship.

Direct mailer designed for a collaboration with fashion designer, Baylene Li - shown at her exhibition "Spur-of-the-moment" during the Singapore Design Festival 2007.
The design combines the concept of Spur of the moment with the artwork we designed for Dual City Sessions: Null - based on Confucius philosophy that a man grows wiser as they grow older and the visual element "hair".
The artwork was also made into wearables released in limited editions under the Baylene label.

It is pronounced as si’lent. We removed the letter ‘E’ for two reasons.
1) We had a lecturer in school, who said that designers have big egos, so we removed the letter "e" to represent removing the ego in what we do. We wanted one of the ethos of the studio to be without ego.
2) For aesthetic reasons.

Generally speaking, yes... Although we can be persuaded if we like the project and the client enough.
We have always fought against growing the team and it’s become quite clear to us that if we had 15 people, chances are, we’ll have to take on very boring and corporate projects just to keep it going.
Instead, we like the freedom of choosing what projects to work on and having as much fun as possible along the way.
Instead, we like the freedom of choosing what projects to work on and having as much fun as possible along the way.
Most of our clients are in one way or another related to the creative industry (fashion designers, architects, musicians, paper merchants, etc.).
Rather than focus, it would be more apt to say that we enjoy working with like-minded individuals on projects that allow us to work beyond the boundaries of graphic design.

All of our work is custom, so there is no cookie-cutter answer.
At any given time, we only work on a small number of projects (between 3 - 4) which allows us to focus our full attention on it, rather than spread ourselves too thin.

To provide an estimate, we require a brief, timeline and your preliminary budget. It always helps to know how much you are hoping to spend, so that we can put together options that will fit within your budget.
- A designer looking for a job or internship?
- How do I apply for a job at your studio?
- Can I get an internship placement with your studio?
Unfortunately, we do not hire any permanent staff. The studio is made up of just two partners. We assemble a bespoke team for bigger projects formed by remarkable individuals around the world.
Thanks for considering us, we take it as a big compliment that you would spend your vacation with us.
Unfortunately, we do not have an internship programme. We don't really work fixed hours, and our space can only accommodate the two of us. Also, we don't fancy the idea of ordering someone around to make coffee, cut mounting boards or run errands.
It's a good excuse for us to leave the computers.
